Your First Alert Medical Needs Require a Medical Alert System and a Proper Phone Line That Will Work

Your first alert medical needs may be telling you it's time to obtain one of the best medical alert systems available - can be your first fall, heart attack, imbalance, fear of living alone and many other medical issues you or your loved one may be having. Once you become aware that these first alert medical needs arise getting your loved one a medical alert will be a lifeline for them to reach help without reaching the phone.

All a senior has to remember in an emergency is to press the button on their medical pendant. The senior will wear the medical around their neck or as a band on their wrist. Typically, seniors or their loved ones will ask what is needed for the medical alert system. There are not many requirements for a senior to get a medical alarm. In fact, the only real requirement is that the senior has a working home telephone. This does not mean a cellular phone. Medical alarm devices can work with land lines, VOIP lines, cable packages but not cell phones.

A medical alert system comes with a medical pendant and a console with a speaker box. The console needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet as well as a phone jack. It connects to your land line so the monitoring center can have an operator communicate with the senior via the speaker box.

It is equally important to be familiar with the phone company that you use. Almost all phone companies will be compatible with your medical alarm system. However, depending on which phone company you do have, the medical alarm company will send you a system compatible for that specific company. For example, people who use a cable bundle package receive a different console than those who have a standard land line. AT&T U-Verse needs a different medical alert system too.

If you already have a compatible land line, but have to move or change your phone company, do your homework. Make sure you check with your medical alarm company before signing up with a new phone company. Most likely your medical alert service can get the right system to you for the phone service you desire. If the new phone company is not compatible, do not use their service.
This does not mean that you cannot have a cellular phone. It only means your cell phone is not tied to your medical alert console, your home phone is.

As long as you have a land line, you are good to go. Once you are physically prepared for a medical alert system, you need to make sure you are mentally prepared to use it. It is recommended that a senior tests their medical alert pendant at least once a month. This gets the senior in the habit of using the emergency button. The idea is that if the senior are in the habit of pressing the emergency button on their medical pendant they will remember to do so in a true emergency. Testing the medical alarm is very important for every senior.

And if you ever have any questions about your phone service or testing your medical alert system, just call your medical alarm company. I'm sure they would be happy to help you.
